Carrots

If it's this bad with me feeding him, what's it going to be like when he has control of the spoon?

Symmetry

Tooth number two poked through today - now he's got two tiny white buds on the bottom.

Break on Through to the Other Side

Dexter celebrated his 5 month birthday with the emergence of his first tooth (bottom right)! Before we know it he'll have a full head of hair and a mouth full of teeth - I'm going to miss those bald gummy baby grins.

The Four Seasons

Dexter and I headed out yesterday afternoon to visit Daniele and her daughter Ziva at the Four Seasons. It was a lovely visit - the babies got along famously. Later, another childhood friend, Maeve, showed up. Reconnecting with old friends (me) and making new ones (Dexter) was a wonderful way to spend the day.

The Dougherty Girls

Dexter's cousins on the other side of the family, Riley and Teagan.

The A's

Dexter's cousins Amanda, Adam, and Aaron. One of my all-time favorite quotes is by Adam...when shown pictures of his cousin, Dexter, Adam exclaimed with disappointment, "That's not a cousin, that's a baby!"

Babysitting Adventures

Ben and I had our first night out without Dexter since he was born thanks to Molly! Dexter and Molly got along great from the moment they met. So great, in fact, that he refused to finish his bedtime bottle preferring instead to socialize with his new buddy. While Ben and I were enjoying a lovely meal with my childhood friend, Daniele, and her husband, Joe (we had such a wonderful time catching up and eating a fancy meal at Hub 51!), apparently Dexter refused to go down for bed, ate 8 more oz (and still wanted more), and demanded Molly's full attention. I had told Molly that I expected he would sleep the whole time so it just goes to show that when it comes to Dexter, expect the unexpected.

We can't thank Molly enough for providing us with a few hours of adult interaction. It was a pleasure to go out and know that Dexter was in loving and capable hands.

Just My Luck

Dexter slept through the whole night on Sunday (7pm - 7am). When I woke up at 5 to go to work, I thought I should have been feeling better than I was considering I hadn't had so much sleep in a long time. However, I was only at work a couple of hours when I knew I had to come home sick. When I got home, I went right to bed with chills and sweats. Before long, I was running to the bathroom to throw up (I didn't make it). Ben had to stay home from work to care for Dexter (and me) and clean up the mess I made on the living room floor. I'm sure he was thinking he was the luckiest guy on the planet at that moment!

His Wish Is Our Command

It really was mostly breastmilk but since Dexter has been so interested in everything "eating" lately, we thought we'd try a little rice cereal. First bites were not so smooth but he quickly got the hang of it.

Can I Eat That?

Ben and I once saw a tv program about "strong men" and one of the strong men said he looks at objects in the world and his only thought is, "Can I lift that?" Not for nothing but that guy could lift a pick-up truck. Dexter seems to think, "Can I eat that?" about every object he encounters, even his toes.

Easter Bonnet

The Easter Bunny brought Dexter a basket full of Mommy's & Daddy's favorite goodies but he was way more interested in an empty Dunkin Donuts bag.

Going to Town

It's been a while since My Bologna was featured so here's a clip of him going to town on his dinner.

Wiggle Butts

Mommy and Daddy were surprised to find that Dexter had repositioned himself in his crib last night.

Oh, He's Got My Hair!

Raspberries on Video

We went hog wild with the video camera this afternoon and caught Dexter during a raspberry-fest.

The Best Husband In the World

I've always known how wonderful Ben is but sometimes it's nice to be reminded of it - and last night I got one of those reminders. After three nights of very little sleep, last night I went to bed exhausted at 8:30pm. Around 11:15pm I heard Dexter crying and got out of bed ready to stick a boob in his mouth and saw that Ben had already gotten him and was feeding him a bottle so I could keep sleeping. I went back to bed feeling loved and cared for. And Dexter then slept the whole rest of the night. Of course I had to pump my overly full and leaky breasts as soon as I got to work this morning but it was worth it to get a much needed long stretch of sleep!!

It's A Sad (and Smelly) State of Affairs

Usually I have been able to get a quick shower in while Dexter takes an afternoon snooze but lately he's decided that he doesn't want an afternoon snooze and would rather have my undivided attention from the time I get home from work until the time he goes to bed for the night. Yesterday, I actually had to leave work an hour early so that I could run home and have a shower before Ben left for work. I feel (and smell) a million times better.
