Birthday Bash: Shared Celebration

The day of Dexter's fourth birthday was Ian's actual fifth birthday. As if the cupcakes weren't enough, we brought out two cakes and sang Happy Birthday to both boys.
They both blew out both candles...eventually. One of the funniest moments of the evening was when they both were blowing and blowing and the candle on Dexter's cake wasn't going out and Monica said, "It's like a COPD commercial." The adults all lost it.
Dexter must have been high on sugar because he picked up the whole cake and took a bite out of it.

Birthday Bash: Cupcake Decorating

More fun for the kids as they made their own cupcake creations. We used some of Dexter's construction vehicles to carry and transport the candy toppings around the table.

Birthday Bash: Treasure Hunt

Ben and I devised a "treasure hunt" in the backyard in order to create time and space for cleaning up from the pizza-making and set up the table for cup-cake decorating. We had each child pick an index card - on each card, we had written a color. The color on each card corresponded to a colored ribbon that each child had to follow to a "surprise clue" at the end. The ribbons wound through the backyard, woven around each other and through the swingset. At the end of each ribbon, the kids found a different topping for decorating cupcakes. It was a flurry of activity (both outside and inside as Elissa and I traded out pizza toppings for cupcakes and frosting)!

Birthday Bash: Pizza Chefs

We had a blast celebrating Dexter's fourth birthday with a pizza-making, treasure-hunting, cupcake-decorating extravaganza (I can't wait until we completely trash our carpeting and have to replace it with hardwood floors!).
The kids really enjoyed making their own pizzas and making pizzas for the grown-ups.
Dexter LOVES black olives on his pizza.

Good-Bye, Joanie

You were so supportive of us and loving towards Dexter. Knowing that you were enjoying the blog was inspiring (so many times as I was creating a post I thought, I know Joanie is going to love this!). We will miss you.
