More fun for the kids as they made their own cupcake creations. We used some of Dexter's construction vehicles to carry and transport the candy toppings around the table.

Birthday Bash: Treasure Hunt
Ben and I devised a "treasure hunt" in the backyard in order to create time and space for cleaning up from the pizza-making and set up the table for cup-cake decorating. We had each child pick an index card - on each card, we had written a color. The color on each card corresponded to a colored ribbon that each child had to follow to a "surprise clue" at the end. The ribbons wound through the backyard, woven around each other and through the swingset. At the end of each ribbon, the kids found a different topping for decorating cupcakes. It was a flurry of activity (both outside and inside as Elissa and I traded out pizza toppings for cupcakes and frosting)!
Birthday Bash: Pizza Chefs
We had a blast celebrating Dexter's fourth birthday with a pizza-making,
treasure-hunting, cupcake-decorating extravaganza (I can't wait until
we completely trash our carpeting and have to replace it with hardwood
floors!).
The kids really enjoyed making their own pizzas and making pizzas for the grown-ups.
Dexter LOVES black olives on his pizza.

Good-Bye, Joanie
You were so supportive of us and loving towards Dexter. Knowing that you were enjoying the blog was inspiring (so many times as I was creating a post I thought, I know Joanie is going to love this!). We will miss you.

Where's My Head?
I am clearly overwhelmed these days. I just had to email Elissa to ask what time I put on the invitation for Dexter's party today. We know it's today. We even know it's this afternoon. But we have no clue as to when we asked people to arrive.
Garden Cat
Dexter's potty calendar (where he puts stickers when he poops) was a freebie from the Humane Society. As such, each month features a dog or cat in a seasonal situation and has another small picture of a dog or cat on the section of the calendar with the days. Each month, Dexter names both animals. A few months ago, the big picture was of a cat in a sink and Dexter named her "Sink Washing Cat." When he turned the calendar to December yesterday, he saw a big fluffy white cat next to a pine tree in front of a window with a winter scene outside. Daddy asked what that cat's name is and Dexter said, "It's Sink Washing Cat!" Daddy explained that it couldn't be Sink Washing Cat because Sink Washing Cat is black and white and this cat is only white. Dexter suggested that maybe somebody painted Sink Washing Cat all white and Daddy explained that that probably wasn't the case because this cat looks too fluffy to have been painted and, besides, it would be mean to paint a cat. Daddy prompted Dexter for this cat's name again and Dexter thought and thought and thought and thought and thought. Finally, he said, "Garden Cat." "Great," said Daddy, "And what is this little dog's name?" (pointing to the smaller picture of a dog). Without missing a beat, Dexter said, "Dan."
