Another Doctor's Appointment, Another City Adventure
This time Ben had the doctor's appointment and we took Dexter into the
city again, this time exploring the Disney Store (we told him it was a museum so he wouldn't want to buy anything - is that wrong?), the Magnificent Mile, the Water Tower, the Hancock Building (we didn't go up but ate lunch at the Cheesecake Factory inside),
and the hospital where Dexter was born.
Sophisticated City Food
Dexy enjoyed his first Jamba Juice (apples and greens) during our Sear's Tower Adventure Day. He drank his whole cup and I needed to refill it with Daddy's Jamba Juice.
After my appointment, Dexter was having a low-blood-sugar meltdown so we took him to the Rock and Roll McDonald's in the city. Meltdown disappeared. "I've never seen such a big McDonald's!"

Fearless!
I had a doctor's appointment in Chicago on Monday at 11:15am so Ben and I
decided to go early and take Dexter to the top of "the Serious Tower" as Dexter refers to it.
We talked about the glass ledge on our drive in and Dexter seemed pretty concerned. I wasn't sure he'd do it but when Dexter saw the glass ledge he ran right onto it (I did not)! Fearless!
It was a gorgeous day and the views were lovely. Dexter especially liked seeing the river and the road where we drove under the building.

He Did It! He Flushed It! He Plunged It!
There was lots of excitement at our house on the evening of the Fourth of July. Dexter hadn't done poops throughout his whole "hotel adventure" and had been grabbing his bum throughout the afternoon. I was sure today was the day he would do a poop on the potty. Dexter was resistant to Daddy's and my excited suggestions that he put his poops in the potty and managed to get through dinner and "flag" desert without too much discomfort. However, as he was preparing for his bath, he kept complaining about his belly hurting and his bum hurting. We let him wander around naked for a bit until he turned to me with a concerned look on his face and said, "I can't make it stay in anymore." We seized the opportunity to put him right on the potty and, sure enough, he did his poops on the potty! After the initial drop, Dexter repeatedly said in amazement, "I pooped on the potty." But there was more to come. A lot more. So much more that he clogged the toilet and had to help Daddy plunge it. We celebrated with a green star on his potty chart, a parade, and a special surprise that Mommy and Daddy had been saving for his first poop on the potty (a small delivery truck that Dexter had been admiring at the Walgreens). He also got to call anyone he wanted to let them know that he did his first poops on the potty. Grandma and Grampy? Nope. Grandma and Gunker? Nope. Dexter wanted to call Elissa, Ian, and Jason (they were very excited and it made Dexter feel very proud). Since it was the 4th of July, there were also fireworks (hope he doesn't expect those for every poop on the potty!).

4th of July Berry Flag
Dexter was proud of the fact that he made the blue icing and constructed his own berry flag in celebration of this nation's birthday.
Hotel Adventure: Bedtime Musings
I actually enjoyed Dexter's inability to fall asleep in the hotel bed because he was perfectly content to lay in bed sharing his musings, questions, and suggestions for updating a lullaby.
And then the storm will put down the electricity to go down the steps and the elevator.
We drove such a long way to see some taxis and a sign on a cactus? (looking up at the two pieces of "art" in the hotel room)
Rock a bye, deer
On the tree top under the water
He catches a duck and he catches a bird
He catches a fox and he catches a fish
And he goes to sleep
Rock a bye, deer

Making the Most of It
Despite the air conditioning at the hotel not being fully functional, and despite the small size of the room (especially when we pulled out the sleeper bed that Dexter would be sleeping on), we all managed to make the best of it.
