Tapping the Garbage Can
Still not used to the shape of the Volkswagon stationwagon, the other day I bumped into a plastic garbage can in the alley as I was backing out of our garage. Dexter was on it immediately, "What was that noise, Mommy?" I tried to pass it off as nothing but he wasn't buying it. "What happened, Mommy?" Finally I told him that Mommy just tapped one of the garbage cans in the alley. The next morning when Ben and Dexter called me at work, I was talking to Dexter and heard Ben say in the background, "Tell Mommy not to tap any more garbage cans." "Don't tap anymore garbage cans, Mommy!" Dexter echoed. Apparently, Dexter spilled the beans on the morning walk, pointing out the green garbage can that Mommy tapped with Red yesterday. The next day, I was driving into the garage from the alley with both Ben and Dexter in the car and I tapped the same garbage can again with my right rearview mirror. "You tapped it again, Mommy!" Yesterday morning when we got into the car, Dexter said, "Tap the garbage can again, Mommy!" Instead, I went into the alley and moved our neighbor's garbage can back to the appropriate spot by his garage. I'll never live this down.
