Real Deal Ambivalence

The actual first day of kindergarten was a different story. The weather was stormy and Dexter's sunny disposition was overcast with a little anxiety. Still, he put on a brave face. We managed to get a picture of him in his first day of kindergarten outfit...

and walking under the umbrella to school but when we got there, it was a chaotic scene. Dex was shuttled through the front door so fast I barely had a chance to say good-bye and I didn't have a chance to take a picture.
We did manage to get a shot of him when we picked him up and he still had his brave face on.  The teacher said he did "great" but I think she was as overwhelmed as the new kindergartners - hopefully they figure it out together.

Practice Run Enthusiasm

A couple of days before Kindergarten started, I took Dex on a practice run.

Getting dressed and eating breakfast then walking to school.
He was so excited!

First Trip to the Field Museum

Ben took Dexy to the Field Museum with friends from the neighborhood. We had gotten a book on sloths from the library earlier this summer and had shared our new-found obsession with the creatures with these friends (mostly sharing hilarious You Tube videos). When they found a sloth exhibit at the museum, they all were beyond excited!

Dex was actually reading the informational placards!
 "Taller than our house!"
Interactive exhibit aimed at helping visitors understand the dynamics of wings. Apparently, Ben got this thing going faster than anybody has ever seen (our friend emailed me from the museum as it was happening).

Car Show/Petting Zoo

Ben took Dex to a local car show/petting zoo set up by a local church.

I don't know what kind of overlap there is between car enthusiasts and animal lovers (besides Ben and Dexter for whom this was the perfect combination).
All of the animals were super chill and friendly.
And Dex was sure to make friends with all of them.
It was nice to see Dex engaging with humans as well!
The most calm bunny on the planet.
Lots of love between Dex and the critters.

T's Birthday Bonanza

Dexy helped Tabitha celebrate her 6th birthday in August.  There were lots  of exciting things to do including video games

 (some that were too loud),
 party games,
 putt putt,
 roller coaster,
and go carts!

Appreciation

We had such a great time with Grandma and Gunker.  We really appreciate all they did for us during our visit especially the lake, food, and love!

Driving Through Mississippi

Dex took photos of clouds from the car.
And Ben took pictures of church signs.
