Birthday Party Prep

Since we are going to have everyone decorate their own cupcakes at Dexter's birthday party tomorrow, Dexy and I spent some time this afternoon baking cupcakes.
He loved participating in the party prep and did a great job following directions.
Cake-baking is serious business for our little dude.

Ice Cream Brunch, Pizza Dinner, and Cupcakes for Dessert

The only family time we had on Dexter's birthday was in the morning. As a result, we celebrated with an ice cream cake for brunch.  Dexter was certainly surprised when he got back from My Bologna's walk to find it waiting for him!
Dexy and I had a low-key dinner of pizza together at home.
Dexy also got to bring some cupcakes to school as a birthday snack. Ms. Lois gave me the extras so Dexy and I enjoyed them after dinner.  Not exactly a health conscious birthday but it sure was a special treat!

Abundance of Resources

Daddy and Dexter spent about an hour recreating Bug City with the additional components Dexy got for his birthday.  Dexter loves watching those bugs scurry around the platforms, up ramps, and along causeways. I have to admit, it is a bit mesmorizing - it reminds me of the habitrail I had for my hamsters when I was a kid.

Later in the day, Dexter went back to Bug City, turned on all four bugs, watched them for about 5 minutes and then left them on while he went to go play with his new race tracks.  I told him that he needs to turn off his bugs if he's not using them right now and he replied, "It's OK if they run out of batteries, I have 100 more." I told him that just because he has an abundance of resources it doesn't mean it's OK to waste them.

Rearranging Railroad City

Railroad City was basically gutted in order to make room for the new race tracks.

Expressions of Amazement and Gratitude

Dexter took great pleasure in opening all of his birthday cards and family gifts all by himself.
Grandma and Gunker provided an expansion set for his Bug City. He was thrilled! So was Daddy...
This turned out to be 100 batteries for Bug City but when Dexter unwrapped it, he exclaimed, "It's a box! I love boxes!"
Aunt Steph, Uncle Randy and his cousins Amanda, Adam, and Aaron satisfied Dexter's ongoing fixation with fast cars by giving him a car shooter that he calls a "garage"...

 And a race track!
Dexy was excited about his new Squirrel game from Grandmama and Grampy.  We played it again and again that afternoon and then Dexter taught Daddy how to play the next morning.

Birthday Morning Surprise

Dexter woke up around 5am on his birthday morning but didn't notice the presents we had put in the middle of the living room floor until the sun came up.
